What is powerlifting?

Powerlifting is a pure strength sport. During a powerlifting competition, athletes measure the most weight they can lift in the big 3. These are the squat, bench press, and deadlift. Each athlete has 3 attempts per lift. At the end of the competition, the total of the best attempt per lift from each athlete is added up. The one with the highest total wins the competition.

The difference between powerlifting and simply becoming strong lies mainly in participating in competitions. Even if you have no ambitions to compete, you can still gain a lot from the squat, bench press, and deadlift.
